Hi! Performance, - an evening featuring performance art by Noah Krell, Joseph
T. Enos and Scottie Hall at Autobody Fine Art, is in part a personal
homage to High Performance Magazine (pun intended, - sorry). High Performance
was a quarterly arts magazine founded in 1978 and published until 1997 and
based in Los Angeles. Its editorial mission was to provide support and a critical
context for new, innovative and unrecognized work in the arts. Over the years
High Performance was a leader in viewing the arts in the larger context of
contemporary life, examining how the arts contribute in addressing social and
cultural concerns, and also how those concerns impact the arts.
As a Graduate student at UCLA I had the great fortune to meet and get to know some of the artists whose early work formed the backbone of critical performance art in Los Angeles, including Paul McCarthy, Chris Burden, Linda Nishio, Carole Caroompas, Charles Ray. Although I was a painter (certainly no performance artist), I have always been thrilled by the unleashing of physical and psychological energy and intellectualism that comes hand in hand with control and staging as a performance unravels itself.
It is with great excitement that Autobody Fine Art Announces it’s first ever Performance night on Friday March 29th, from 7:00pm – 9:00pm (doors of the gallery will open at 6:00pm). The artists involved have very different approaches to the genre, so expect an evening of challenging, visceral and transcendent work.
